The collars are different sizes for insulated and non-insulated wire of different diameters and voltages. Collars for bare wires need a glass insert that is designed for the OD and working voltage. The collars take most of the pulse to ground and the DC Sensor disconnects a leg of the transformer automatically to save the core and then reconnects when the pulse is gone.
We suggest collars on bare wire used for distribution to step-downs and then different collars for the local wire on poles so they do not become “CELESTIAL ANTENNAS”. Google: Western Union Solar Flares and read how the last big one burnt up keys and sounders and set fires to offices.
